Soulja Boy Suddenly Dropped Every Artist On His Label

Spring is the season of new beginnings. It’s also a time when people tend to do deep cleaning of their respective spaces, hence the term “spring cleaning.” It seems as if Soulja Boy took spring cleaning to a whole new level as he decided to drop every single artist from his Stacks On Deck Entertainment Group (SODMG).

From his tweets, it seems Soulja was having a few loyalty issues with the people in his crew and rather than name names he decided to give everyone their walking papers.

Currently, the label doesn’t boast any notable rappers but was once home to Lil B and Riff Raff. A quick Wiki search of the label’s history shows that A. Goff’s 2015 release The Gold EP was the only album released from the label that wasn’t from Soulja Boy himself. In short, this isn’t exactly the breaking up of Roc-A-Fella records.

The move comes after Soulja managed to score a $400 million deal that actually may not have actually been worth $400 million. It’s also fresh off his writing credit for his work on Beyonce’s Lemonade. Musically, Soulja is reportedly working on a new project with Lil Yachty, Pretty Boy Millionaires 2. The first mixtape in the series was a joint collaboration between Soulja Boy and Lil B back in 2010.

Soulja Boy’s move to release everyone could serve a dual purpose. His decision to clear out his label could be seen as a rebirth and a chance to create some new energy into his musical pursuits. Also, he could very well be freeing himself of the obligations of his label to pursue other opportunities and capitalize on his ever-growing profile. Whatever the case, he’s got the money and the free time to make the moves he wants to make. It’ll be interesting to see what he does with his newfound freedom.
