Jar Jar Binks.
Just the name alone is enough to send Star Wars fans into a frothing rage. The bumbling Gungan has raised more ire among the fanbase than just about any other character (save maybe the Ewoks).
So it should come as no surprise that J.J. Abrams considered killing him off. After all, the director is a huge fan of the saga and who wouldn”t jump at the chance to put the senator from Naboo to rest…permanent-like?
Speaking to Vanity Fair during their exclusive behind-the-scenes access, Abrams joked about surreptitiously killing Binks.
“I have a thought about putting Jar Jar Binks”s bones in the desert there. I”m serious! Only three people will notice, but they”ll love it.”
Oh, I don't know. I think more than three people would notice.
Of course, through the haze of righteous bloodlust perhaps Abrams remembered that a entire generation actually loves that idiot clown. Making children cry is anathema to the Star Wars brand. You win this round, Jar Jar.
