235 days until Star Wars: Does Battlefront’s ‘Battle of Jakku’ promo art have a spoiler?

When Disney said they were going to bring all the entire Star Wars saga under one continuity umbrella, they weren't kidding. Even the latest game by EA, Star Wars Battlefront, will take cues from the Holocron Keeper.

As part of this interconnected dance, Battlefront will drop free DLC (down-loadable content) on December 1st, 2015 for everyone who purchased the game. Entitled “The Battle of Jakku,” the all new skirmish will set the stage for the desert planet featured in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” To help build hype, EA Games released this photo showing two scuffed up and aged lightsaber hilts.

If you”ve got an eagle-eye, you”ll notice those are some very familiar hilts. On top sits Darth Vader”s and beneath is Luke Skywalker”s green-bladed lightsaber. The copper shine may have worn off over the years, but the unique chrome grip is unmistakable. From the trailer for “The Force Awakens,” it”s clear the Battle of Jakku was a major confrontation. Much like the STAR WARS comics from Marvel, perhaps Darth Vader and his son will clash on this desert planet?

Except the math doesn”t add up.

From the official synopsis:

Taking place in the aftermath of the Rebel victory in the Battle of Endor, players will experience the events that created the massive, battle-scarred landscape of Jakku shown in Star Wars™: The Force Awakens™.

With Jakku taking place after the Battle of Endor, Anakin Skywalker is a friendly ghost and his armor a crispy Viking pyre. Does this image mean Luke took his father”s lightsaber as a keepsake? If so, will Luke follow his retconned Expanded Universe self down the path to the dark side…and back again?

Or perhaps it means nothing. Just a bit of marketing using two of the most recognizable lightsabers in the galaxy. But do you believe that?
