It only took 38 years for ‘Star Wars’ to let women pilot Rebel ships

On the one hand, getting a new “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” TV spot every couple of days is like an early holiday gift. On the other hand, it appears no one told Disney”s marketing people the entire world was going to come watch this movie and they can stop now.

Today we have TWO more commercials for you. The first (above) features the Resistance pilots in full form, checking in with their leader Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac). Best of all? Between the end of “Return of the Jedi” and the beginning of “The Force Awakens,” the hiring department for the Rebellion started hiring women and aliens to pilot their ships!

Sure if you've been reading the comics, this comes as no surprise. And sure, originally three women had roles as pilots in the fight against the Death Star in “ROTJ” until they were left on the cutting room floor. But it's still nice to finally SEE it!

Disney/Lucasfilm also released a new spot featuring Rey (below) as a bookend to earlier TV spot featuring Finn. I don”t know how I got this far without realizing Rey has an Imperial (British) accent. Yes the Jedi and Leia had those accents because they grew up on the Inner Rim. And Finn was raised by the First Order. But Jakku is definitely Outer Rim. What does it mean!?

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” arrives in theaters on December 18.
