It”s no secret how HitFix Harpy feels about Princess Leia”s metal bikini. We”re even at the forefront of the push to change the costume name from “Slave Leia” to the more appropriate “Hutt-Slayer Leia”. And it”s been pretty clear from the trailers that Rey (Daisy Ridley) is in weather-appropriate attire in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
Then again, Carrie Fisher was in appropriate attire in “A New Hope.” So what advice did the veteran princess have for her apprentice? Fight.
In a recent interview with Interview Magazine, Fisher took on the role of journalist and posed questions to Daisy Ridley about everything from how her life has changed to what she”s looking forward to in “The Force Awakens.” Eventually talk inevitably turned to Fisher”s iconic Hutt-Slayer costume from “Return of the Jedi” and being thrust into ‘sex symbol” status The Alderaan senator had some strong advice for Ridley.
FISHER: Oh, you're going to have people have fantasies about you! That will make you uncomfortable, I'm guessing.
RIDLEY: Yeah, a bit.
FISHER: Have you been asked that?
RIDLEY: No, they always talk about how you're a sex symbol, and how do I feel about that. [Fisher sighs] I'm not a sex symbol! [laughs]
FISHER: Listen! I am not a sex symbol, so that's an opinion of someone. I don't share that.
RIDLEY: I don't think that's the right-
FISHER: Word for it? Well, you should fight for your outfit. Don't be a slave like I was.
RIDLEY: All right, I'll fight.
FISHER: You keep fighting against that slave outfit.
So you hear that, Rian Johnson and Colin Trevorrow? No sticking Daisy Ridley in a glorified bikini as fan service or you”ll have two righteous women (and their fans) to deal with.
