Aaron Eckhart on the monster’s new look in ‘I, Frankenstein’ at Comic-Con

Aaron Eckhart is giving a new voice to Frankenstein’s monster.

HitFix’s Katie Hasty caught up with the “I, Frankenstein” star at the San Diego Comic-Con, where the actor took part in the film’s Hall H panel. Watch the full interview above.

In this action-filled new take on the original gothic horror story, Eckhart plays Frankenstein’s monster, known as Adam Frankenstein, who finds himself in the middle of clan warfare in an ancient city.

Eckhart promises that the film avoids the camp tendencies of some other versions of the tale, and has more in common with Mary Shelly’s 19th century novel, wherein Dr. Frankenstein’s creation is a “sensitive, passionate, articulate character” and not a moaning, nuts-and-bolts monster.

Although he’ll sport a new, more human look, Adam will still feature some gnarly scars, which Eckhart says reflect the film’s theme “about being a human being, about finding love and having human emotions”

The film was written and directed by Stuart Beattie (“G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra,” “Pirates of the Caribbean”) and co-stars Bill Nighy, Yvonne Strahovski (“Dexter”), Jai Courtney (“A Good Day to Die Hard”) and Miranda Otto (“Lord of the Rings”).

“I, Frankenstein” opens January 24, 2014.
