Aaron Taylor-Johnson perfected the skid for ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’

When making a sequel to a successful film, one of the things that happens is the introduction of new characters.

When you're making a sequel to one of the most successful films of all time, though, the actors playing those new characters would be well within their rights to be completely terrified and overwhelmed by the experience.

In the case of Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen, though, they appear to have stepped right into their roles as Pietro and Wanda Maximoff, known collectively as “the twins” and individually as Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch. I spoke to the both of them on-set when I was in the UK, and then again at the recent press day after seeing the film, and one of the main topics of discussion was the emotional side of stepping into a series this iconic.

I've been interviewing Taylor-Johnson since the original “Kick-Ass,” and it's been interesting watching him grow from someone who seemed like a talented kid when I first met him to the married father that he is now, and little by little, it's been a process of watching Aaron relax into his own skin. He strikes me as a guy who is resolutely unconcerned with how other people view him.

Olsen appears to have arrived in film fully-formed, though, and I wonder if that's just the result of growing up around the massive extreme fame of her sisters. She's always seemed very poised and serious to me, and between the two of them, I didn't detect a hint of nerves.

You'll get a chance to see for yourself how well they fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe when “Avengers: Age Of Ultron” opens tomorrow.
