After a week of swirling allegations, accusations and cancellations, Adam Lambert and ABC appear to have made nice.
In a late-breaking news release on Friday (Dec. 4) afternoon, ABC announced that the “American Idol” runner-up will appear on the Thursday, Dec. 10 episode of “The View.”
Lambert’s appearance will include an interview and a performance, but it will be a taped interview and performance. Lambert’s “View” episode will come the morning after Barbara Walters’ primetime “Most Fascinating People” special featuring… Adam Lambert.
So is everybody happy again?
The announcement followed a tumultuous series of events after Lambert’s performance at the American Music Awards stirred up controversy and protest in some circles. In the wake of that performance, ABC cancelled Lambert appearances on both “Good Morning America” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and reportedly withdrew the glamboyant singer from consideration for a “New York’s Rockin’ Eve” slot.
ABC’s actions prompted a series of back and forth press releases from the Gay and Lesbian  Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), which initially seemed to buy the network line that Lambert’s sexual orientation, but later decided to get militant.
“We appreciate ABC”s commitment to gay and transgender inclusion in other programming,” said Jarrett Barrios, President of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, in the group’s Thursday statement. “However, let us be clear that GLAAD remains steadfast in our assertion that Adam Lambert is being subjected to a double standard by ABC as an openly gay performer. We do not support ABC cancelling Adam Lambert’s past and future performances. We urge the community to reach out to ABC and express their concerns that Adam Lambert is being subjected to a double standard.”
As of Friday evening, GLAAD had yet to release a new statement on whether bygones are now bygones.
Stay tuned for any future free promotion ABC wants to give Adam Lambert’s new album.
