Kevin James has helped recruit some of his famous friends to voice the animals in his new live-action comedy “The Zookeeper.”

According to Variety, James’ long-time buddy Adam Sandler, Sylvester Stallone, Judd Apatow, Cher and Jon Favreau will lend their talents to the Frank Coraci picture.  Sandler’s involvement isn’t that surprising considering his Happy Madison shingle is co-producing the flick.

“Zookeeper” finds some zoo animals trying to teach their keeper (James) how to properly woo a mate in order to nab the woman of his dreams (Rosario Dawson).  Sandler will portray a capuchin monkey, Favrau is taking on the role of a bear, Stallone is a mighty lion, Apatow an elephant and Cher will wrangle a giraffe.

James is coming off the biggest hit of his career with “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” and is currently shooting “Grown Ups” with Sandler.  Apatow and Sandler reunite on next month’s “Funny People.”

Production on the highly-saught after project will begin this summer in anticipation for an Oct. 8, 2010 release.
