R.E.M. superfan Adam Scott got the most insane birthday gift from Toni Collette

By Adam Scott's own admission, the actor was “totally intimidated” to work with Toni Collette in the new holiday-themed horror film “Krampus.” But not only did the Oscar-nominated actress quickly put him at ease, she gave him perhaps the greatest possible birthday gift during filming.

“She knows I'm a big R.E.M. fan, and on my birthday, which was while we were shooting the movie, she had Michael Stipe record me a happy birthday video,” said Scott, who counts himself among the legions of R.E.M. diehards (he's even discussed doing a podcast about the band, similar to his U2-themed podcast “U Talkin' U2 To Me”). “That's how cool Toni Collette is.”

“Krampus,” meanwhile, is designed as a throwback to the Amblin movies of yore, from Tobe Hooper's “Poltergeist” to Joe Dante's “Gremlins.” In the rest of the interview (embedded above and below), Scott geeks out over his favorite Amblin movies and describes how director Michael Dougherty got authentic reactions of fear from his actors on set.

“Krampus” hits theaters on Friday.
