Alright, Alright, Alright: Greatest moments of Matthew McConaughey’s career so far

It's been an amazing year for Matthew McConaughey.  Well, actually it's been an amazing two years. Acclaimed performances in movies such as “Magic Mike,” “Mud,” “The Wolf of Wall Street” and “Dallas Buyers Club” and throw in almost every conceivable best actor honor, including Oscar, for the latter and he's the toast of the town.  Oh, and did we mention his turn in HBO's paradigm shifting series “True Detective”? Possibly the best work he's done in any medium?  Yes, good things to those who spend two years making independent films, er, we mean, to those who wait.

McConaughey will only add to his impressive resume with Christopher Nolan's new drama “Interstellar.” As Cooper, a test pilot who captains a mission which is Earth's last hope, McConaughey is as emotionally raw and compelling as he's ever been.  This isn't the guy who smiled his way through “How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days.”  There's much, much more going on these days.

Of course, the Texas native's charm has been one of his selling points. It's why we all remember his “Alright, Alright, Alright” salutation, a mantra that, honestly, not a lot of his peers could pull off without it beginning to sound like nails on a chalk board.  But McConaughey? He's in that Clooney zone now and that's not a bad place to be.

With that in mind (and on his actual birthday!) the HitFix staff have chosen some of the greatest moments of McConaughey's career to date and – surprise – they aren't all movie performances.  Check them out in the embedded gallery at the bottom of this article.
