AMC created a second love interest for ‘Preacher,’ as if Jesse didn’t have enough problems

While rumors are flying that Dominic Cooper – best known as Howard Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – has been cast as Jesse Custer in AMC”s adaptation of “Preacher,” another bit of OFFICIAL casting news for the show dropped. This time about a brand new character.

”True Blood” star Lucy Griffiths has signed on to play Emily Woodrow, according to Hollywood Reporter After being unceremoniously dumped from “Constantine” earlier this year, it”s good to see her getting right back into the comic book saddle.

The only catch? (because you knew there was going to be a catch). Griffiths” character is being positioned as a love interest foil to Ruth Negga”s hard-living Tulip O”hare. Looks like AMC is setting up a good old-fashioned love triangle.

Emily Woodrow [is] a no-nonsense single mother of three. Emily's a waitress, the church organist, a bookkeeper, and Jesse's loyal right hand. Stoic and strong, wise beyond her years, she can”t help but have a little thing for Preacher Jesse.

Do we really have to do this? Jesse Custer has enough on his plate without two women vying for his affection. Though, this COULD go another way…

WARNING: SPOILERY SPECULATION AFTER THIS POINT

Woodrow is described as a mother of three, but how exactly would a single mom tag along on a cross-country journey to find God? Short answer: she couldn”t. BUT, if Woodrow was in the church during the catalytic event, we could find ourselves in a situation where the ghost and/or corpse of the uptight bookkeeper is haunting our merry band because she”s in love with Jesse. Or she wants restitution for being murdered. Regardless, it doesn”t have to be a love triangle right?

It”s probably a love triangle. But a girl can dream.
