‘Avengers’ can’t lift Thor’s hammer as ‘Ultron’ arrives in new clip

Whew.  Hydra didn't screw this one up.

Fans were supposed to get their first look at “Avengers: Age of Ultron” during tonight's episode of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Unfortunately for ABC and Marvel Studios, someone in Disney's International distribution system leaked the teaser trailer online on Wednesday. That, unfortunately, forced the studio to release the preview on the inter webs earlier than expected and found Marvel TV's signature program without an “Age of Ultron” boost on the way (although they are loving that record 70 million views in less than a week).  Marvel made it up to “S.H.I.E.L.D.” by releasing a full clip from the movie instead which you can now find embedded at the top of this article.

The clip, which was shown to 6,000 fans attending Marvel's panel at San Diego Comic-Con last July, begins with the Avengers relaxing in Stark Tower.  Any longtime reader of the Avengers comic book knows that the group often socializes before or after great adventures and it's always been a way to show genuine camaraderie and affection within the group (or not).  Director Joss Whedon gives a nice tip of the hat to those moments as our big screen Avengers have some fun determining whether they are “worthy” enough to lift Thor's hammer.  War Machine (Don Cheadle) and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) on hand, but the best shot of the scene is Thor's reaction when Steve Rogers aka Captain America (Chris Evans) comes oh so close to lifting the mighty Mjolnir.

And then of course, someone (or something) has to come and crash the party.  Oh, Ultron.  Just when the Avengers were having so much fun.

Enjoy the clip as it then segues into the official teaser trailer we're sure you've watched at least 300 times already in the video at the top of this post.

“Avengers: Age of Ultron” opens nationwide on May 1, 2015.
