‘Battlestar Galactica’ alum Tricia Helfer’s next role: the mother from Hell, literally

Tricia Helfer is set to play the mother from Hell.

No, really, actually from Hell – the Battlestar Galactica alum has been cast as the Devil”s mom in Lucifer, Fox”s show loosely (very loosely) based on the Lucifer DC Comics series that is itself a spin-off of Neil Gaiman”s The Sandman.

The model-turned-actress has got alluringly devious down, so this seems like an excellent fit.

Season 1 of Lucifer ended with the Prince of Darkness being tasked by God with capturing a soul that”s escaped from Hell. That soul is none other than Lucifer”s mum.

Here is the official character description for Helfer”s character, named Charlotte:

“Trapped in Hell for thousands of years by God (her ex-husband), the Mother of Angels is now free on Earth. Once reunited with Lucifer, it will become clear that she”s the one he takes after. Mom is fearless and has a strong conviction for who she is and what she deserves. However, mother and son do not share the same opinion when it comes to humanity. Everything that fascinates Lucifer about people repels Mom – a disdain that”s highlighted by that fact that Mom”s trapped in a human body for her stay on Earth. Lucifer”s desperate to find out what Mom”s up to, but she claims that all she wants is to spend time with her sons again. But can the devil”s mom really be that innocent?”

Mother of fallen angel Lucifer and ex-wife of God. Well, it looks like Fox is deviating from any traditional theology just as much as they”re deviating from the comics. After the season 1 finale, some fans had speculated that this Mom character would be Lilith (in medieval Jewish tradition, a demon and the first wife of Adam who”s also reared her evil head on Supernatural), but apparently they”re not going in that direction.

Season 2 of Lucifer will premiere on Fox on Monday, September 19.
