Box office: ‘Neighbors’ parties past ‘Spider-Man 2’ on Friday with $19.6 million

“Neighbors” partied hard at the box office on Friday, earning a huge $19.6 million and unseating “Amazing Spider-Man 2” from the top spot.

The raunchy comedy, starring Seth Rogen and Zac Efron, is on its way to a weekend debut just under $50 million. It's a great start for a film that reportedly cost just $18 million to produce.

“Spider-Man,” which features returning stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, swung to No. 2 with $10.1 million on Friday. It will likely earn around $36 million for the weekend, putting it within reach of a $150 million domestic total.

The Sony sequel has so far earned a big $340 million overseas. It also stars Jamie Foxx, Paul Giamatti and Dane DeHaan.

The Cameron Diaz comedy “The Other Woman” scored another $2.8 million for third place on Friday, bringing its domestic total to a strong $55.2 million.

The Christian-themed drama “Heaven is For Real” earned $1.6 million. Its domestic total stands at an impressive $69.8 million.

Long-term champ “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” rounded out the top five, picking up another $1.4 million. The Marvel sequel has so far earned a huge $240.8 million.

The new faith-based comedy “Mom's Night Out,” debuted in sixth place, nabbing $1.2 million. The Patricia Heaton comedy will likely earn around $5 million for the weekend. 

Next week's big openers include Warner Bros.' new “Godzilla” and the Jon Hamm baseball drama “Million Dollar Arm.”
