Sorry, “How I Met Your Mother” and “Big Bang Theory.” Second time won’t be the charm, “Survivor” and “Criminal Minds.” CBS has decided to give the coveted post-Super Bowl programming slot to a new show this year.
CBS announced on Monday (Dec. 21) morning that “Undercover Boss” will premiere at a special time on Sunday, February 7 whenever the Super Bowl and its exhaustive post-game show are over.
“Undercover Boss” will then move into its regular time period on Sunday nights at 9 p.m. on February 14.
In “Undercover Boss,” executives from major corporations go undercover at the ground floor of their respective organizations, seeing how the actual workers live their lives. In the process, they learn valuable lessons about the other half (or, rather, the other 99.9 percent) live. In the process, the corporations will get an hour of free commercial time, as their brand names are mentioned over and over and over again.
“Everyone has daydreamed about watching the boss do their job,” states Nina Tassler, President, CBS Entertainment. “The journey of watching a chief executive walk a mile in their employees’ shoes is always very revealing, often humorous and, in some cases, very inspiring.”
Among the companies getting the “Undercover Boss” treatment are 7-Eleven (Joseph M. DePinto, President and C.E.O.), Hooters (Coby G. Brooks, President and C.E.O.), White Castle (Dave Rife, Owner/Executive Board Member) and Churchill Downs (William C. Carstanjen, C.O.O.).
The premiere focuses on Larry O’Donnell, present and COO of Waste Management, who gets to work the sorting line at a recycling plant, clean porta-potties and collect garbage from a landfill.
