With the 11th installment of “Big Brother” hitting season highs as the summer comes to a close, CBS has ordered another run of the reliable warm-weather schedule-filler.
CBS formally announced the “Big Brother” renewal on Wednesday (Sept. 9), less than a week from the show’s two-hour finale on Sept. 15. “Big Brother 12” will premiere on CBS in the summer of 2010.
The network boasts that “Big Brother” is averaging 7.08 million viewers this summer, up by 7 percent in total viewers over “Big Brother 10.” The show is up 4 percent in adults 18-49 (with a 2.5 rating) and 5 percent in adults 18-34 (a 2.0 rating).
The CBS release trumpeting those gains fails to note that “Big Brother 10” premiered fast on the heels of “Big Brother 9,” a hastily scheduled spring installment meant to stave off the effects of the writers’ strike.
Now down to a Finale Three of Jordan, Kevin and Natalie, “Big Brother” is also setting viewership records on CBS.com, where it had yielded 25 percent more users and 94 percent more video streams than last summer.
