Charlize Theron confirms: Filming ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ was kind of a nightmare

The tumultuous production of George Miller's “Mad Max: Fury Road” wasn't exactly a secret at the time — and Charlize Theron isn't about to sugarcoat the experience for the press.

“It was not an easy shoot, yeah, it was tough,” Theron told me while promoting the upcoming post-apocalyptic actioner at CinemaCon. “And you know, I think that there…I look at the movie now and I have the utmost respect for the process that took place. But when we were in it, it was incredibly…it was tough.”

As anyone who's seen the film's eye-popping trailers is aware, “Fury Road” looks like a one-of-a-kind sensory experience — something Theron characterized in fittingly hyperbolic terms.

“It was like creating a whole new world. And in a weird way, a whole new language, and how people communicate, and how would they communicate and everything was about survival,” she said. “Everything was based on that.”
