Chris Pratt establishes his dominance in new ‘Jurassic World’ clip

Well, the early speculation/rumors turned out to be correct, as this new clip from “Jurassic World,” which just made its debut on MTV, demonstrates. Chris Pratt's character in the film is indeed able to lead the raptors, and that means we're going to see a scene where he leads them in against other dinosaurs and just typing that makes me feel like I'm nine years old because HOLY COW THAT SOUNDS AWESOME.

Basically, that's the mood I hope Colin Trevorrow is able to strike with the entire film. He was a little kid when he saw “Jurassic Park,” and now he's making his own film set in that same world. He's been handed the toys to play with, and now we'll see if he can take that excitement he felt when he sat in that theater and if he can translate it to an experience that will turn the audience into those same rapt amazed little kids.

I like the clip. I think the role is the right use of Pratt, at least just based on what we see here. If Star Lord was the beginning of his new career as The New Harrison Ford, then this seems like the perfect follow-up. He's a wise-ass womanizer who commands the respect of a team of intelligent raptors. Yep. That sounds right.

I'm curious how many people who watch this clip simply assume they're watching Jessica Chastain. Bryce Dallas Howard's resemblance to the omnipresent arthouse star has never been more pronounced. She and Pratt look like they could have some fun chemistry here, but if she's the one who developed the new super-dinosaur that goes berserk in the film, then I wonder if she's going to get chomped as comeuppance for playing god.

I'm excited to see this one with my kids, because that sounds like an absolutely absurd amount of fun. Fingers crossed Trevorrow nailed it.

“Jurassic World” is in theaters June 12, 2015.
