Colin Farrell may become a ‘True Detective’

Even as HBO reveals more details about its “exciting” second season of “True Detective” at the Television Critics Association press tour today, one big name is revealed to be in “deep negotiations” to play one of the lead characters.

Deadline reports Colin Farrell is in the running for Nic Pizzolatto's follow-up. HBO has not yet confirmed the Irish actor for being in contention, though they said during TCAs that fans can expect a casting announcement next week, and that there are “four central roles.”

“I think the people we will cast will be well-known names, but that wasn't our ambition and I don't use that as a challenge,” HBO President of Programming Michael Lombardo said during TCAs this week. “Great writing draws great actors.”

Yesterday, the first season of “True Detective” scored two Lead Actor nods for Drama during the 2014 Emmy Awards nominations, for its stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

No actor names are officially attached yet, though it's been confirmed that the new season will be set in California. “True Detective” is up for 12 Emmys.
