Colin Trevorrow jumps from ‘Jurassic World’ to ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’

During the live-action D23 Expo panel today, the director was revealed for “Star Wars: Episode IX.” Each part of the new trilogy will be helmed by a different director, with Colin Trevorrow taking point to bring the series home.

Coming off the runaway success of “Jurassic World,” rumors had been flying the Trevorrow had been tapped by Disney/Lucasfilm, but this is our first confirmation.

From the press release:

Trevorrow states, “This is not a job or an assignment. It is a seat at a campfire, surrounded by an extraordinary group of storytellers, filmmakers, artists and craftspeople. We”ve been charged with telling new stories for a younger generation because they deserve what we all had-a mythology to call their own. We will do this by channeling something George Lucas instilled in all of us: boundless creativity, pure invention and hope.”

For Disney”s part, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said she had been impressed with Trevorrow since “Safety Not Guaranteed,” with the success of “Jurassic World” speaking volumes to Trevorrow”s ability.

“Jurassic World” being indicative of Trevorrow's ability is something Ms. Kennedy and I can agree on, but for entirely different reasons.

Those who were turned off of Trevorrow”s work after the muddled story elements of “Jurassic World” might have concerns, but hopefully the guiding hand of the House of Mouse keeps everything on the track.
