Comedy ‘People Are Talking’ gets an NBC series order

Adding to its growing haul of new shows for the 2015-2016 season, NBC has given a series order to “People Are Talking,” the network's first new comedy order of the spring.

“People Are Talking” comes from writer DJ Nash and executive producer Will Packer (“Ride Along”) and the multi-cam pilot was directed by “How I Met Your Mother” veteran Pamela Fryman.

The Universal TV series looks at two couples who are neighbors and best friends, prone to “analyze and obsess about everything.”

The core quartet is played by Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Meaghan Rath, Tone Bell and Bresha Webb.

Last week, NBC kicked off the spring pick-up season with series orders for the dramas “Chicago Med,” “Blindspot” and “Heartbreaker.”

NBC previously ordered the drama “Shade of Blue,” starring Jennifer Lopez, to series, while the Eva Longoria comedy “Telenovela” was picked up in January. The venerable comedy “Coach” got a surprise resurrection notice back in March. NBC also has limited series “Heroes Reborn” and “Emerald City” on tap for the 2015-2016 season.

[The “What will NBC pair with 'Coach'?” question may be NBC's biggest upfronts mystery and “People Are Talking,” with its multi-cam format and “Daddy Zack Morris” '90s nostalgia factor might be a really good candidate, eh?]

While not targeted for the official fall, NBC also has “Mr. Robinson,” starring Craig Robinson, and “The Carmichael Show,” with Jerrod Carmichael, premiering in August.

NBC's official schedule will be announced on Sunday ahead of the network's Monday, May 11 upfront presentation to advertisers.
