DC Comics superhero The Spectre may be heading to FOX

FOX is developing a drama series based on the supernatural DC Comics character The Spectre.

The Spectre, created by Jerry Siegel (co-creator of Superman) and Bernard Bailey in 1940, is an ex-cop stuck in an eternal afterlife, where he exacts vengeance upon mortal criminals in the name of their dead victims. The character has gone through many iterations in the DC universe, lately being hosted by several different characters. The Spectre’s fantastical elements give the project the potential to go beyond the typical superhero genre tropes and more into the realm of fantasy and horror.
The network ordered a script for the show this week, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Brandon Camp (the short-lived FOX sci-fi show “John Doe”) is working on the script for exec producer Bill Gerber (“Gran Torino”).
Another superhero story is coming to TV via the FOX family: Sister network FX, is developing a series based on Brian Michael Bendis’ comic series “Powers,” with Jason Patric set to star in the pilot.
Casting is a long way away, but who do you think would make a good Spectre?
