Deleted ‘Tomorrowland’ animated sequences reveal Tesla’s secret society

In the late 1950s to the early 1960s, Walt Disney Presents did a series of specials about the future, including Mars and Beyond and Magic Highway, USA. These specials encapsulated the hopefulness for the future that permeated mid-20th century American culture. “The Jetsons” and the push-button world of tomorrow were only a few decades away!

Brad Bird”s new film “Tomorrowland” appears to be trying to reignite that feeling of nostalgia for a future that never happened. Unfortunately, time constraints meant cutting out some truly wonderful animation sequences that explain the “Plus Ultra” secret society. According to Animation Scoop, early edits of the film had these gorgeous exposition pieces inter-cut with the live-action actors reacting to them.

Evoking the imagery and feel of Walt Disney Presents, these two animated featurettes live on as stand-alone videos from TakeMeToTomorrowland.com

“Tomorrowland” hits theaters on May 22, 2015.
