‘Star Wars’ land invites you to hang out in the Cantina and fly the Millennium Falcon

Get ready to have all of your childhood fantasies come true.

Two 14-acre “Star Wars” Disney theme park expansions are coming. One in Anaheim”s Disney Land and the second in Orlando”s Disney World, The Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced at today”s D23 EXPO in Annaheim.

These will be immersive “experiences” in the vein of Universal Studios” “Harry Potter World.” Guests will be invited to party in the Cantina and fly the Millennium Falcon on a customized mission – hopefully not in that order.

Take a look at some of the concept art below:

“We are creating a jaw-dropping new world that represents our largest single themed land expansion ever,” Iger said. “These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet, including an epic Star Wars adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance. The partnership between Disney and Lucasfilm dates back to 1987, when the successful Star Tours attraction, inspired by George Lucas”s legendary Star Wars film series, opened at Disneyland.

This will have been in the works for some time and makes great business sense for Disney. We”ve suspected that something along the lines of these expansions were on the way for some time. It would be easy to get cynical and think of the endeavor as a cash grab – which it is. Yet, as a fan, I must confess that this sounds like a dream come true.

Meanwhile, take a look at some of our theories based on the new “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” reveals in the video below:
