‘Doctor Strange’ ads need 100% more Chiwetel Ejiofor and Mads Mikkelsen – She Said/She Said

She Said/She Said is a (sporadically) daily video featuring HitFix Harpy Donna Dickens and HitFix Weekend Editor Jill Pantozzi discussing current events in geek news.

*******************

Doctor Strange has been in the news cycle since the dawn of time.* And HitFix has been here to cover the film every misstep of the way. But despite the trailers mostly focusing on Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), there are other characters in this movie. Characters that could help alleviate some of the whitewashing perceptions.

*Otherwise known as 2014.

Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mads Mikkelsen, Benedict Wong, and Rachel McAdams all have roles in Doctor Strange. Yet until this past weekend, (almost as if they sensed we'd filmed this video) those actor had only been seen in background scenes and snippets. Okay, Ejiofor had one great line about the wifi in the last trailer (and most recent TV spot). But that”s what we”re talking about! Marvel”s greatest strength is in its character moments, yet we”ve seen little and less of this in the marketing for Doctor Strange. Yes, the trippy cityscapes a breathtaking but it”s all empty flash-in-the-pan if we don”t care about the people maneuvering through them.

In the video above, HitFix Harpy's Donna Dickens and Jill Pantozzi question why Marvel isn't utilizing the secondary actors to show more of these character moments.
