Exclusive: REGGIE & ME #1 finally explains why girls fawn all over this jerkface

Since 1942, Reggie Mantle has been the thorn in Archie Andrews” side. A poster boy of high school stereotypes, Mantle is usually portrayed as a sarcastic star athlete. If it involves physical fitness, you”ll find Reggie front-and-center. With an inflated sense of self, the dark-haired teen has never been above cheating or using obscure rules to make sure he wins.

If that weren”t bad enough, Reggie is an infamous prankster. Unfortunately ‘pranks” are usually only funny to the one doing the pranking. Fortunately, Reggie”s plans have a tendency to backfire in his face spectacularly, making for some delicious schadenfreude.

Despite flaws that would send most people running for the hills, Archie and his friends have magnanimously invited Reggie into their friend group. One might say Reggie Mantle is the living incarnation of a ‘frenemy.” In the past, Archie and Reggie have warred over the affection of Veronica Lodge, though Mantle has little interest in a serious relationship, preferring to play the field. His interest is mostly in girls that are taken, finding sport in trying to ‘steal” them from their boyfriends, as he is just the worst.

But could Reggie Mantle be misunderstood? Despite a long history, Archie Comics has shown very little of Reggie”s home life. What kind of family churns out a person like this? Perhaps we will find out this winter when Archie Comics gives Mantle is own comic, Reggie & Me, written by Tom DeFalco, with art by Sandy Jarrell, Kelly Fitzpatrick, Jack Morelli.

From the official press release:

There is no one more loved, revered, admired and adored in Riverdale than…  Reggie Mantle? Well, at least Reggie doesn”t think there”s anyone as loved and admired as himself. And his best friend can back that idea up-his best friend, of course, being his dog, Vader. The unstoppable duo is known around town for pulling the funniest pranks, getting the hottest dates and throwing the best parties. And if anyone even dares to compete with them, there is going to be hell to pay. Come take a look at the life of your hero, the handsome, hilarious Reggie Mantle.

HitFix Harpy got an exclusive look at NINE covers that will accompany this journey into madness. Much like with the reboot of Archie, the new art finally explains why girls are falling all over themselves to date this self-centered dude. He is very pretty. Plus a bonus peek at the cover for REGGIE”S 80-PAGE GIANT COMIC #1 which is also coming this winter.

If Reggie Mantle is holding Archie Comics headquarters hostage, someone tweet me the keyword “Vader” and I”ll bring the cavalry!

In the meantime, have some fun with this in-depth trolling of Reggie by the man himself, Archie Andrews. The whole thread is gold!
