Exclusive: Gail Simone mocks the patriarchy in her ‘Wonder Woman 75th Anniversary’ story

Wonder Woman is celebrating her 75th anniversary this year, and DC Comics has been pulling out all the stops. In fact, they declared today – October 21 – to be “Wonder Woman Day” and I”ll be honest, I didn”t know you could just declare holidays and where can I get this kind of executive power?

Anyway. As part of the celebration, Wonder Woman was designated a United Nations Honorary Ambassador for the Empowerment of Women and Girls, Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins answered fan questions on Facebook Live, the Amazon Princess got her own Spotify playlist, and a metric ton of new merchandise has been released to retailers.

Oh! Wonder Woman is also getting a special anniversary comic as well. Since, you know, she”s a comic book character. WONDER WOMAN 75TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL #1 is an oversized 80-page comic that arrives on store shelves October 26, 2016 and will feature stories from over a dozen of the biggest names in comics today. HitFix Harpy got our hands on a brand-new illustration from Jenny Frison and three exclusive pages from the story by Gail Simone and Colleen Doran. “Big Things One Day Come” follows Diana as she and Star Blossom (seriously, tell me more about this young hero!) take on a kryptonite-enhanced gorilla controlled by a man who wants to destroy the human race except for himself and the women he wants to sleep with.

I see what you did there, Gail. And quite frankly, I like it.
