Will Ferrell knows there is strength in numbers, so it’s not surprising he’s recruiting Mark Wahlberg to star in his first ture comedy in the upcoming “B Team.”
Currently a “ready to go” project with several studios bidding on it, “B Team” will be directed by longtime Ferrell collaborator Adam McKay (“Step Brothers”). Variety reports the comedy was written by Chris Henchy who co-wrote Ferre
ll’s upcoming “Land of the Lost” and is a co-executive producer of “Entourage” on which Wahlberg is executive producer.
Ferrell is currently burning the Broadway box office in his one man show “You’re Welcome America. A Final Night with George W. Bush.” HBO will broadcast a taped version of the limited engagement performance on March 14.
Hardly a natural comedian, Wahlberg has arguably never made a comedy film in his career and considering his everyday demeanor, it’s easy to see why. His next release is the highly anticipated drama “The Lovely Bones” from director Peter Jackson.
While not stated in the report, it seems clear “B Team” is not a riff on the 80’s TV series “The A-Team” which 20th Century Fox is in the middle of rebooting for the big screen.
The trade expects a studio to pick up “B Team” by the end of this week.
