Bryan Fuller is a busy man. Having recently wrapped production on Hannibal and still in the throes of getting American Gods up and running for Starz, Fuller has just been confirmed to be taking on another challenge:
Star Trek.
In a press announcement this morning, Fuller has signed onto the Star Trek revival as co-creator, executive producer, and showrunner. This is a career full circle for Fuller, who got his start years ago writing for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and sister show Star Trek: Voyager. Not that it”s a surprise, as Fuller is a lifelong Trekkie. In a statement about the revival, he had this to say:
“My very first experience of Star Trek is my oldest brother turning off all the lights in the house and flying his model of a D7 Class Klingon Battle Cruiser through the darkened halls. Before seeing a frame of the television series, the Star Trek universe lit my imagination on fire. It is without exaggeration a dream come true to be crafting a brand new iteration… with fellow franchise alum Alex Kurtzman.”
For his part, Alex Kurtzman is happy to have Fuller along for the ride, citing his partner-in-crime”s encyclopedic knowledge of all things Star Trek and genuine love of Roddenberry”s optimistic future. As this year marks the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, it seems a great time to boldly return to where no man has gone before.
The currently untitled Star Trek revival is set to debut on the CBS All Access digital streaming network in 2017.
