Funny Fairy: Melissa McCarthy is playing Tinker Bell in a new comedy

Melissa McCarthy is getting wings.

The “Tammy” star is teaming up with director Shawn Levy (“Night at the Museum”) for an untitled comedy-adventure in which McCarthy will play Tinker Bell, the fairy made famous in Walt Disney's 1953 animated classic “Peter Pan,” according to Deadline. Nicholas Stoller (“Neighbors”) will write the script based on a “fresh take” hatched up by McCarthy and Levy, who are also producing the film. No other details are available at this time.

McCarthy can currently be seen in “St. Vincent” opposite Bill Murray; coming up she has the Paul Feig comedy “Spy” co-starring Rose Byrne and Jason Statham. Earlier this year, her latest starring vehicle “Tammy” brought in more than $100 million worldwide despite garnering poor reviews.
