‘Hannibal’: Could the next step be to the big screen?

Could there be reason to crack the Chianti? “Hannibal” creator Bryan Fuller left the cabinet just a little open – possibly for a movie – at a panel discussing the recently-canceled series.

According to Variety, Fuller told Comic-Con attendees today (July 11), “We are still looking… We don”t have a lot of answers and we”re looking at the possibility of a feature.”

He added, “We”d like to continue with the show so the way this season ends, there may be an opportunity for a little break and then hopefully we”ll find a way to bring Mads [Mikkelsen] and Hugh [Dancy] back to you.”

The future is still, obviously, in question: Following NBC”s dismissal of the series, Fuller shopped “Hannibal” around to Netflix and Amazon hoping to breathe new life into it. But on July 6, Fuller announced both streaming video services passed on picking it up.

Alan Sepinwall has proposed a few other options for “Hannibal.” Maybe one of them will stick. Fans certainly hope so.
