HBO has announced premiere dates for a slew of spring offerings, including the series “Eastbound & Down,” plus the filmed version of “Will Ferrell: You’re Welcome America. A Final Night with George W. Bush.”
“Eastbound & Down,” produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay along with star Danny McBride and director Jody McBride, will launch on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 10:30 p.m. ET.
The comedy stars McBride as a former major league pitcher who gets booted from professional baseball and finds himself teaching gym at his former middle school. If you’ve seen Hill and McBride’s “Foot Fist Way,” you can probably imagine the tone.
Also with a premiere date on the series side is “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency,” an adaptation of Alexander McCall Smith’s bestselling series which will begins its run on March 29.
Jill Scott and Anika Noni Rose, “Detective Agency” was filmed in Botswana and the telefilm pilot marked the late Anthony Minghella’s final directing effort.
At HBO’s Television Critics Association press tour session, the premium cable giant also set March 14 for the premiere of “Will Ferrell: You’re Welcome America. A Final Night with George W. Bush,” a filmed version of Ferrell’s one-man show.
Ferrell’s show will begin Broadway previews on January 20 (Inauguration Day) and open on Feb. 5. HBO’s presentation will air live.
The cable network had previously announced that the third season of “Big Love” and the second season of “Flight of the Conchords” will kick off on Jan. 18 and the second season of “In Treatment” will launch in April.
