NBC has brought in “House” creator David Shore to shepherd a remake of the ’70s P.I. classic “The Rockford Files.”
The original series ran from 1974-1980 on NBC and star James Garner as the Jim Rockford, a con-turned-gumshoe. The series helped launch writer-producer Stephen J. Cannell’s career and won Garner an Emmy in 1977.
According to Variety, Shore plans on keeping the show’s basic structure, but updating its private eye adventures to the present day.
Shore is a well-know “Rockford Files” buff. Avid “House” fans will know that the private investigator character played by Michael Weston last season was being positioned for a possible spinoff. Will Weston be considered for the actual “Rockford Files” remake? It remains to be seen.
