On September 12, 2003, when I was…well, never mind how old I was, a little horror movie called “Cabin Fever” hit U.S. screens and became a surprise hit, grossing over $30 million on a $1.5 million budget and launching the film career of future “Hostel” director Eli Roth. Now IFC Midnight has acquired North American rights to a previously-reported remake of the film, which it will release it in 2016.
“It was a great opportunity to recreate an iconic film for a new generation of horror fans,” said director Travis Z, who shot the film from Eli Roth and Randy Pearlstein's original script (a la Gus Van Sant's 1998 “Psycho” remake). “I am a die hard fan of horror films and the king of horror Eli Roth trusted me to re-imagine his film. I was not going to fail.”
Question: what does Travis Z mean “a new generation of horror fans”? If there is a moviegoing “generation” younger than mine (which seems impossible), surely they are in elementary school and too young to watch horror films?
