Broccoli, the enemy of children everywhere, is finally getting some love…or at least less hate.
In the hit Pixar movie “Inside Out,” young Riley recoils in horror as her father attempts to feed her broccoli. But as it turns out, the vegetable isn”t quite the by-word for yucky in Japan that it is here in the US. An eagle-eyed Redditor who goes by the name of “Mike_Pants” noticed that in the Japanese version, the broccoli was replaced by green peppers, the vegetable that all red-blooded Japanese children grow up to despise.
It”s common practice for film makers to slightly adjust content for international appeal and cultural differences. In “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” Steve Rogers” list of pop culture items to brush up on features Steve Jobs in the U.S. but the British version of the film lists Sean Connery, while the version in Spain includes Rafa Nadal.
This wasn”t the only adjustment for local markets made in “Inside Out” either. In the British version, one of Riley”s father”s flashbacks changes from hockey to soccer, as another Redditor noticed, posting the dueling sports scenes below:
