During the press junket for “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Jeremy Renner gave an interview to Digital Spy in which he called Black Widow a “slut.” He – and Chris Evans, who also made untoward comments – later apologized. That was that.
Except it wasn”t. On last night”s episode of “Conan,” Jeremy Renner stopped by to explain himself. Only instead, he just crammed his foot so far down his throat, they”ll see it at his next colonoscopy.
I was asked the question, “So Black Widow”s been linked to Hawkeye, Iron Man, Bruce Banner, and Captain America. What do you think about that?” And I well it sounds like she”s a slut. Now mind you I was talking about a fictional character and fictional behavior. But. Conan. If you slept with four of the six Avengers, no matter how much fun you had, you”d be a slut. Just sayin'. I'd be a slut!
You can”t hear it, but I am heaving the heaviest of sighs.
A few of things:
#1: Since it can”t be stated enough apparently, stop calling people sluts. Full stop. Unless a person is self-identifying as one, it”s a word that can and should be burned out from the English language. Here”s me talking about why.
#2: Black Widow has slept with EXACTLY ZERO of her co-workers. Nada. Zip. Zilch. None co-workers.
#3: “She”s fictional,” is not a shield you can hide behind. Human responses and behaviors to fictional characters are a reflection of how they feel about real people.
#4: Just stop talking.
