JJ Abrams’ ‘Star Wars: Force for Change’ video shows new spaceship

Exactly two months ago today, J.J. Abrams announced the “Star Wars: Force for Change” initiative and a whole slew of “Star Wars” related prizes you could win if you chose to donate.  Today, Abrams is back with a new video to tell us that there is but one week left for you to get a chance to win a trip to the film set and an advance screening.

The video, which you can watch here, really is mostly a reminder, but it also has a few extra goodies thrown in as well.  Most noticeably, Abrams is standing right in front of a spaceship.

Ah, but what kind of spaceship?

Not to get too bogged down in the minutiae, but some have suggested it's a Z-95 Headhunter, but to our eyes the guns look different.  Others say it's an X-Wing, and while that would seemingly match what we see with the guns, X-Wings traditionally have two engines on each side and this only has one.

We certainly would like to hear your theories on it, but it's probably worth throwing out a couple more thoughts on the whole thing.  First, the Z-95 may have a long history, but we don't believe it appeared in any of the movies and therefore even if the design is based on it, it is non-canon and may not be called the same thing in “Star Wars: Episode VII.”  Second, the new movie doesn't take place at the same moment in time as the other films and therefore the designs may have changed.

So, watch the video, throw out your thoughts-most importantly, do you like it-and be nice.  Don't take that first step down the path to the Dark Side.
