Will Ferrell had a bad summer with the disappointing “Land of the Lost,” but he’s recruiting a lot of star power to ensure his latest comedy, “The Other Guys,” is a big hit.  Director Adam McKay had already recruited Mark Wahlberg, but now Variety reports Dwayne Johnson, Samuel L. Jackson and Steve Coogan are also in the fold.

No strangers to comedy, Jackson and Johnson will play a pair of “super cops” whose record and achievements are the envy of everyone in the police department.  Ferrell and Whalberg are less successful officers who dream of being as loved as their peers.  Coogan will play an undisclosed villain.

Johnson will next be heard as a voice in the upcoming “Planet 51” and stars in the 20th Century Fox comedy “Tooth Fairy.”  Jackson appeared in the Toronto Film Festival entry “Mother and Child” and just finished production on “Iron Man 2.”  Coogan, who hosted this past year’s Independent Spirit Awards, recently finished “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lighting Thief” where he played Hades.  Wahlberg will show his serious side in Peter Jackson’s “The Lovely Bones” this winter.

Production will begin tomorrow in Los Angeles.  “The Other Guys” already is set for an Aug. 6, 2010 release.
