Jon Favreau ponders his ‘Iron Man’ future, would direct ‘IM4’ if it’s a ‘great story’

Just days after Robert Downey Jr. decided that he might have one more Iron Man in him (after first saying it really wasn”t “in the cards”), another key player, director Jon Favreau, is musing about the exact same thing.

In an interview with IGN, the two-time Iron Man director said that he”d return to the series if there was a “great story.” But it sounds like the man who just went behind the camera for the wildly popular Jungle Book isn”t completely convinced of that either.

“I feel like I”ve made my mark; whatever we did in those early days has continued and is in good hands with new filmmakers with fresh voices,” Favreau said. “I just think how I fit in now might be different. It”s 10 years later, and now I”m more of an elder statesman. But we talk a lot about how I could be involved there and I exist both in front of and behind the camera in the Marvel universe, which puts me in a unique position which I enjoy.”

Favreau added, “I wouldn”t be surprised if something pops up soon, but there”s no one property that we”re identifying that I”d want to helm up and shoulder.”

The actor/director”s involvement with Marvel extends well beyond the Iron Man series. He has executive produced the first two Avengers films and it”s been announced that he”ll EP Avengers: Infinity War Parts 1 & 2.
