Outbidding two other studios, Universal Pictures has secured the rights to “The Adventurer’s Handbook,” a new comedy that will star “Superbad’s” Jonah Hill and “Rushmore’s” Jason Schwartzman.

Variety reports that Hill, who wrote the screenplay with Matt Spicer and Max Winlker, shepherded the project which was based on Mick Conefrey’s non-fiction book.  The big screen result will find Hill and Schwartzman as two of four friends who go on a worldwide trek inspired by Conefrey’s book.  The other two buddies have yet to be cast.

Hill just teamed up with Schwartzman on mentor Judd Apatow’s “Funny People” and also recruited Akiva Schaffer, part of The Lonely Island trio of Jorma Taccone and Andy Samberg, to direct.  Schaffer’s feature film debut was the 2007 Samberg vehicle “Hot Rod.”

Universal plans on starting production on “Handbook” later this year.  The studio is also behind Hill’s next comedy, “Get Him to the Greek.”  Schwartzman recently finished shooting the HBO series “Bored to Death” and has the comedy “The Marc Pease Experience” set for release later this year.
