Watch: Joseph Gordon-Levitt is addicted to porn in first ‘Don Jon’ trailer

“There’s only a few things I really care about in life. My body, my pad, my ride, my family, my church, my boys, my girls…and my porn.”

So goes the opening narration in the very first trailer for “Don Jon” (f.k.a. “Don Jon’s Addiction”), the upcoming Joseph Gordon-Levitt comedy that represents the “Looper” star’s first feature-length effort as a writer/director. The film, which debuted to mostly-positive reviews at this year’s Sundance Film Festival (the film was championed by our own Drew McWeeny, though In Contention’s Guy Lodge came away less than impressed), centers on Jon “Don Jon” Martello, a vapid Jersey-ite who’s addiction to online pornography becomes a point of contention when his beautiful new girlfriend Barbara (Scarlett Johansson) inadvertently catches him masturbating in front of the computer.

The trailer is great at setting up the film’s premise and themes while also establishing a wild and wooly comedic tone, with much of the fun coming from JGL’s convincing transformation into a Pauly D-esque “Guido” who is 180 degrees out from his sensitive lover-boy character in 2009’s “500 Days of Summer.” Also worth noting is the preview’s tease of the film’s movie-within-a-movie, a “meta”-licious faux-romantic comedy starring Anne Hathaway and Channing Tatum.

My grade for the trailer: A-. After watching it above, rate it for yourself at top left.

“Don Jon” is slated for release on October 18.
