Quick: what’s the first thing you think of when you hear the words “New Jersey”? If you said “country music,” you may need to have your head examined.
Nevertheless, it appears that citizens of the Garden State are pretty big fans of the genre too, which would help explain the 56,285 tickets sold for Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw’s “Brothers of the Sun” tour stop at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford on Saturday. As it so happens, that’s a record-breaking number for the New York Metropolitan Area (at least in the country music realm), surpassing the record 55,239 tickets Chesney sold at the same venue last year during his “Goin’ Coastal” tour.
Joining Chesney and McGraw at Saturday’s show were openers Grace Potter and the Nocturnals and Jake Owen.
“Brothers of the Sun” has proven to be a blockbuster for the headlining duo, with Pollstar recently naming it the highest-grossing concert tour of the summer, in any genre.
