Marvel says ‘There’s Nothing to Announce’ about Vin Diesel

(CBR) Marvel Studios President Kevin Fiege and “Fast and the Furious” star Vin Diesel seem to disagree on when, or even if, we”ll be hearing news about the actor”s addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Diesel first mentioned a meeting with Marvel in late June before teasing a role a few weeks later with a photo of himself in front of the cover for The Avengers #2. The actor was a little more evasive about the project during the Riddick panel at Comic-Con International, saying, “That”s the one question I”m not supposed to say anything on. I will say there is some very big news coming at the end of this month.”

Afterward, Diesel talked to MTV, which did its best to coax more information out of the star. After commenting on the company”s extensive library of characters, Diesel dropped some knowledge about a certain android Avenger. “I mean, there”s two Visions, for the record,” he said. “And people know one was created by Ultron, one was created by Proctor, as you know, if you follow …”

Then he backpedaled, saying, “No, but I”m not mentioning that character! I”m not mentioning that character, I was just saying there are 8,000 characters, and I gave an example of how one character might have two different versions!”

Meanwhile, Feige told The Huffington Post, “There”s nothing to announce with Vin,” saying there will be no news on that front revealed next month at Disney”s D23 Expo.

“It”s so far ahead it may not even exist,” he said. “So, there”s nothing to announce. But, I love Vin and he”s an amazing personality. Look how much attention he”s gotten for a meeting. He”s incredibly shrewd. He”s got a Riddick movie that I can”t wait to see. And the Fast and Furious franchise, in addition to Vin, is a franchise I admire a lot for turning the sixth and next year the seventh into the biggest and most popular one. As far as a piece of it? Could some day we do a Luke Cage: Hero for Hire in that kind of vein. Totally.”

So, who do you believe? Is Diesel jumping the gun a bit on his announcement of an announcement? Is Feige playing it all close to the vest, not wanting to ruin an upcoming reveal? Or is it a big case of miscommunication?
