Marvel should greenlight a Misty Knight spinoff immediately

Earlier today we got a brand new look at Marvel's Luke Cage. The Netflix trailer gave us our first look at Simone Missick”s Misty Knight in action. Could we see the character get her own spinoff like The Punisher did? Marvel's Jeph Loeb weighs in.

The Hollywood Reporter caught up with Loeb recently to ask point blank if the fan-favorite Marvel character would get her own show.

“We're very lucky in a sense that our casts are so rich and deep and so diverse. We certainly have plans for all of our characters. A lot of it has to do with exactly how many shows Netflix is actually going to let us make. We're up to six now,” he told them, before apparently adding with a laugh, “At a certain point, we have to be careful that we're not becoming the Marvel channel on Netflix.”

Earlier this year, and before he debuted in Daredevil, fans speculated that Jon Bernthal's The Punisher would get his own show, but Loeb brushed it off. And yet just a few months later, that 13-episode series was announced. While Loeb conceded to THR he wouldn't be “mad” about adding another Marvel show to their Netflix roster (fans wouldn't be either) he said, “I think Netflix is being very selective in terms of where we're going. That being said, Simone just knocked it so far out of the park that we're still trying to find the baseball. It's somewhere out there traversing the globe. So it's really great. And I can tell you that what she's doing on Luke Cage, it's just incredible.”

I don't know about you, but from the sound of it, they should greenlight another series. From what we've seen so far, it doesn't look like they're including Misty Knight's bionic enhancements to Luke Cage, so there's certainly a lot more story to tell (though it would have been a nice jolt of representation had they included it from the start). And while Marvel has gone on record to say they have “a very strong record of diversity in [their] casting of films,” giving a woman of color her own television show would help continue your great record

Just one more thing, is Missick down?

“Somebody put it on Twitter that they want to see a Misty Knight series with Shonda Rhimes as one of the writers. I was like, 'Hell yeah,'” Missick told THR. “How cool would that be? If you say it, if you put it out there, maybe it will happen. Tweet it, and it will come.”

Sweet Christmas, Marvel, what are you waiting for?
