“You just want people to have fun and be surprised.” So says Michael Giacchino when explaining the incredible secrecy kept surrounding the character being played by Benedict Cumberbatch in Star Trek Into Darkness.”
In our chat with Giacchino at the “Into Darkness” DVD release party, as you can see above, the composer describes the great length they went to, even when scoring the film, to not reveal the truth behind John Harrison. Giacchino is apparently so well trained that even after the secret was revealed he still found it difficult to give Harrison’s true name when talking about the movie.
As for him coming back to score “Star Trek 3,” there his answer was very straightforward, saying ,”I’d love to come back, absolutely.” On a fan level, Giacchino says that for him, “Star Trek” is about the characters and he wants to just see them “interact with each other.”
“Star Trek Into Darkness” is currently available on Blu-ray and DVD.
