Before there was “Twilight” (at least on the big screen), before there was “True Blood,” CBS produced their own Vampire franchise, “Moonlight.” Cancelled somewhat prematurely, the TV series developed a cult like following which could have paid dividends if the network had stuck with it.. Now, the company’s young movie division, CBS Films, is bringing the series’ lead, Alex O’Loughlin, on board to star opposite Jennifer Lopez in the new movie “The Back-Up Plan.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the romantic comedy finds Lopez as a single lady who turns to artificial insemination to deal with her rapidly clicking biological clock. Her “plan” is turned upside down when the man of her dreams (O’Loughlin) appears the same day she discovers she’s pregnant.
Longtime TV helmer Alan Poul (“Swingtown,” “Six Feet Under”) will make his feature directorial debut on the second picture in CBS Films short history. The Les Moonves pet project is currently shooting an untitled medical drama with Harrison Ford and Brendan Fraser.
O’Loughlin has become a CBS staple as he recently landed a starring role in the company’s television pilot “Three Rivers.” The Aussie actor previously appeared in theaters in the melodrama “August Rush” and is breathlessly waiting with the rest of the moviegoing public for the August release of the long-delayed thriller “Whiteout.”
Production on “The Back-Up Plan” begins May 11 in Los Angeles.
