Movie Power Rankings: ‘Avengers 2’ fights ‘World War Z,’ ‘Gravity’

Marvel fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Everyone’s favorite billionaire superhero — Iron Man — will return for “The Avengers 2,” and beyond. While the status of a fourth solo “Iron Man” outing is still up in the air, Robert Downey, Jr. has inked a deal for two more installments in the “Avengers” series. Now all Marvel and director Joss Whedon need is for the rest of the super-cast to finish negotiations to return in the Summer 2015 blockbuster.

Iron Man will be back, but who will be joining him? 

2. “World War Z”/”Monsters University” (Last week: Not ranked)
It was an epic battle at the box office last weekend, with the Pixar prequel topping the Brad Pitt v. zombies thriller. Will “White House Down” take them both out of the equation?

3. “Gravity” (Last week: Not ranked)
Alfonso Cuaron’s delayed sci-fi epic, starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock, will likely compete at the prestigious Venice Film Fest later this year. 

4. “Cinderella” (Last week: Not ranked)
“Lone Ranger” star Helena Bonham Carter was the evil queen in “Alice in Wonderland,” but now she’s switched sides, signing on to play the fairy godmother in this update of the classic fairy tale. 

5. “Iron Man 3” (Last week: Not ranked)
The Marvel threequel crossed the $400 million mark in the U.S. last week. Now they have to make a fourth one, right?

6. “Independence Day 2” (Last week: Not ranked)
Roland Emmerich has finally set a release date for the long-awaited sequel. Surprise — it’s July 3, 2015. Watch out, “Avengers 2.”

7. “Spring Breakers” (Last week: Not ranked)
Director Harmony Korine is planning a “Chopped and Screwed” remix of the satire starring Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens and James Franco. Will we see more or less bikinis?

8. “The Conjuring” (Last week: Not ranked)
The positive reviews are rolling in for the latest scarefest from “Saw” and “Insidious” helmer James Wan. Clap, clap. 

9. “The Last Five Years” (Last week: Not ranked)
The last time Anna Kendrick showed off her vocal skillz, “Pitch Perfect” became a surprise hit. Now she’s ready to sing again

10. “Bad Teacher 2” (Last week: Not ranked)
Cameron Diaz is going back to school again. A sequel is being developed with the original star in mind.
