Movie Power Rankings: ‘Iron Man 3’ stays on top

Welcome back to another installment of Movie Power Rankings, where buzz means everything for Hollywood’s biggest films. You probably won’t be too surprised by this week’s top movie. Marvel’s “Iron Man 3” is already approaching the $1 billion at the global box office, and is showing no signs of slowing down (although “Star Trek Into Darkness” may have something to say about that). Robert Downey Jr. is not only renegotiating his lucrative “Iron Man” contract, but is also reportedly helping his “Avengers” team mates get a healthy pay raise for the 2015 sequel. Will that mean more green for Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and more cash for Cap (Chris Evans)?

As for the rest of this week’s list…

1. “Iron Man 3” (Last week: No. 1)
It’s already the film to beat at the box office this summer, and we still have plenty more superheroes, car chases and giant robots to go.

2. “The Avengers 2” (Last week: No. 2)
The stars may be getting raises, but if it doesn’t work out, they can always join ABC’s “S.H.I.E.L.D.”

3. “The Great Gatsby” (Last week: Not ranked)
Baz Luhrmann’s 3D take on Fitzgerald danced its way to a strong second place debut at the box office. Only “Iron Man 3” could stop it.

George Clooney and Sandra Bullock head into outer space with “Children of Men” director Alfonso Cuaron, and the initial teaser is finally available on Earth

8. “Star Trek Into Darkness” (Last week: No. 5)
Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto said that they’re both down to do one more “Trek” film. Maybe “The World’s End” helmer Edgar Wright will direct. He appeared on the sequel’s set to guest-direct one of the film’s 2,120 shots. Think you’ll be able to pick it out?

As for that other upcoming J.J. Abrams space saga, HitFix recently spoke with the director and he revealed that the upcoming trilogy will “be its own thing.”
