Neil Patrick Harris is set to host the first new “Saturday Night Live” of 2009.

NBC announced on Monday (Jan. 5) that Harris will host the Jan. 10 episode of the long-running series, the first of three new episodes for the month of January. The network has yet to reveal hosts for the new episodes on Jan. 17 and Jan. 31.

In addition to Harris, as reported on HitFix’s Motion Captured blog, this Saturday’s episode will feature musical guest Taylor Swift, the bestselling artist of 2008.

While Harris didn’t achieve quite a Swift-ian level of success in 2008, he still received his second Emmy nomination for CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother,” appeared in the second “Harold & Kumar” film and found time to star in the online musical sensation “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog.”

This will be the first “Saturday Night Live” appearance for either Swift or Harris. Given Swift’s youth, it isn’t surprising that she hasn’t appeared, but how “SNL” dropped the ball on Harris for all of those “Doogie Howser, MD” years is a mystery to us all.
